"WILDFLOWERS"

As a young women we pick seven wildflowers on Midsummer’s Eve and place them under our pillow to dream about the man we will marry. Every flower is supposed to come from a different field and it’s an old tradition that we all do every year.

1. THE PLANNING

I started out with the papers and the theme.

Planning my pages - this has took me about a week. From picking the pages to figuring out composition and making rough sketches… this is where I’ve landed. Included photos of the pages before I do anything to them.

2. INSPIRATION

This is an extention to an already existing collection on KnownOrigin with two piece - "Poppy" and "Daisy". Both illustrations were sold on KO in July last year.

The series was inspired by nature and classic Nordic illustration - one of those being Elsa Beskows flower characters (bottom row) from the early 1900s. As always my "modern" girls are a mix of old comic book girls (top) and todays influencer-culture.

120 years of female beauty and objectification

Inspiration from 1900-1920 (theme), 1970-1980 (comic books) , 1920-1950 (pages) and the girls themselves are influenced by our modern beauty standards and classic pinups.

3. PROCESS

I've written about my process previously on other collection pages but I'll still include some process photos to take you through the making of each of these.

Materials used:
Vintage magazine pages, markers, ink, pencil, watercolor, gouache.

All the final girls are scanned and edited using Photoshop.
Traditional and digital, mixed.
